Peter Allen at Smith & Williamson offices in Birmingham

At the end of January, we finalised the installation of digital prints by Peter Allen at Smith & Williamson offices here in Birmingham.

I met them in autumn at one networking event. They were just in the process of searching artists for their three meeting rooms. It was ideal timing for me. I went to meet them at their offices and to find out what type of art they were interested. There was some artwork up already in their meeting rooms, but at that time they were looking to refresh the look.

Smith & Williamson is a company which provides investment management, accountancy and tax advisory to businesses and private individuals. The company was founded in Glasgow in 1881, and currently, they have offices all over the UK. Their Birmingham offices are located at Colmore Row next to Snow Hill station.

We had our first meeting and I presented a proposal which after some amendments was finally agreed. The brief indicated that they were looking something distinct to Birmingham and therefore I offered them artworks by Peter Allen. First thing in January I sorted out the production, and by the mid-January, we were ready for the installation. All artworks are digital prints on canvases, which are limited edition and signed by the artist.

I had been given the task of choosing the artwork for our office but, as an art novice, where do you start!  I met Jaanika at a networking event – pure fate but a very welcome meeting.  I had no idea where to start but she made the whole process easy, effortless and enjoyable.  She was extremely thorough and guided me towards the type, size and colours we needed for our rooms shapes and sizes.  The art looks great in our rooms.  Thank you very much Jaanika, your efforts were invaluable.
